Personal portrait sessions

A 90-minute personal portrait sitting delivers 35 to 45 finished frames.

Shot on a medium-format digital body in the studio room or on location around Austin, and handed back as a private gallery, not a folder of raw exports.

What this sitting is

Built for one person, not a family lineup or a headshot line

This is the session for one person who wants a set of photographs that actually look like them: an editorial portrait for a website bio, a set for a dating profile that isn't a screenshot, a gift for a parent, or simply a record of what you look like at this age, done properly instead of on a phone against a wall. We book it for individuals almost exclusively — if you need photographs of a founder for a company site, that's the business portrait sitting instead, priced and lit differently.

The 90 minutes covers a walkthrough of two or three looks or settings, real conversation instead of a director barking pose numbers at you, and enough time to relax into the second half of the shoot, which is usually where the better frames come from. We don't rush a client through fifteen setups in an hour; that's how you end up with thirty-eight photographs that all look like the first uncomfortable minute.

Every frame comes off a medium-format digital body. That matters less if the only place your portrait will ever live is a phone screen, and it matters a great deal if you intend to print it at 20x30 for a wall or a lobby — the extra resolution and dynamic range in the file is the difference between a print that holds up close and one that goes soft past 8x10.

Who books this

People who want one honest photograph, not forty poses to choose from

Most clients are individuals in Austin looking for an editorial portrait photographer rather than a mall-studio package — people updating a professional bio photo outside of a company shoot, marking a birthday or a transition, or wanting portraits for family without the stiffness of a formal studio sitting. If what you actually need is one current photograph of yourself for a company website, look at the business portrait session instead: the lighting and headcount rules are different, and it's billed differently too.

We don't do the mall-studio thing where you flip through eighty near-identical frames on a screen while someone tries to upsell you a package. You get 35 to 45 already-chosen, already-finished photographs. If none of them work for what you needed, that's on us to have asked better questions before the shutter ever clicked.
